A Different Kind of Photo Shoot

The weather was beautiful this past weekend here in Toronto so to capitalize on the opportunity I took this little nugget to the beach to try out something new, a photoshoot out in the open. Even though working outside, surrounded by lots of people and in a new environment had its own challenges, I found it fun and rewarding. There was no need for extra staging as the nature offered everything and more to allow this piece to shine. If you have a minute, drop me a line and let me know how you feel about it, do you prefer it to the traditional indoors shoots or should I attempt to get more of my pieces out in the nature?

Before and After

This little side table was a donation from my neighbours. They decided they didn't need it any more and wanted me to reinvent it in some way. The finish on it was mostly well preserved except for the black burn mark on the top. I hoped that the damage was only on the surface but once I stripped the varnish I noticed that it had damaged the wood. I didn't want to paint the entire piece and came up with the design for the top that would at the same time mask the burn mark.

I used an old Pantone chip to create an octagonal shape that I then traced on surface creating a random pattern.

Each octagon was then taped off to allow for a seamless colouring.

And here is the finished product. I used soft yellow, vibrant green, shimmering brown and light grey colour combo.  Wondering if the neighbour may want it back.

"Algonquin" Coloured Dresser

It has been a while since my last post. Not because I didn't work, but because I worked and tried to spend as much time as possible with my sister and niece. I painted and sold some pieces without even getting the chance to photograph and share with the world.
This one is one of the more recent ones painted in a a beautiful shade of grey/beige called "Algonquin".
I decided to pair it up with beautiful wooden knobs for a touch of calm and sophistication, but because of its simple lines and neutral colour a colourful or more ornate knob would be a total win too. It is now listed and up for grabs in my Etsy store.

Yellow Tallboy Dresser

Lana insisted on "cleaning" the dresser for the shoot

I have been working feverishly on some custom orders lately and didn't have too much time to work on  my own pieces. On top of this my sister, her husband and niece are visiting from Australia and I want to spend some time with them. Between work and being a good sister/aunt and spending time with my peeps I did manage to squeeze in this beauty. Painted in marigold yellow milk paint this dresser will always remind you of summer and carefree sunny days. More info on pricing and shipping details can be found on my Etsy page.

Elegant yet loaded with fun and character this dresser is built of solid wood and as sturdy as they come with an impressive amount of storage. Painted with milk paint is slate colour and protected with several coats of Danish oil and furniture polishing wax it will resist any kind of spill.
All drawers are dovetailed and slide perfectly smoothly.
There are small chips on two of the drawers but they don't compromise the structure of the piece neither do they take away from its appeal. Older and preloved furniture often has them.  For dimensions and shipping info check my Etsy store.

Coral Dresser

Even though it is built of solid wood and was super sturdy when I found it, the surface and finish on this dresser left a bit to be desired. I cleaned it up, sanded down and painted with milk paint in a beautiful shade of coral. Drawers are fairly deep with a ton of storage and the paper I used to line them has a print of coral branches, which I could totally fitting and appropriate. This piece will be up for grabs and available for purchase on Etsy.
