Pale colours seem to be the thing this Summer. This light turquoise is fresh and airy and gives this dresser lightness it called for.

Foyer Makeover on a Budget

This is what the foyer looked like up until Monday. Kind of dark-ish and neglected place that was at the same time sort of a catch-all for stuff.

Ceiling is painted turquoise (in case you missed that). Ceiling lamp, stool, armoire and yellow lamp base are all thrift store finds.

Yellow and turquoise suitcases are also thrift store finds.

We moved in our house almost 4 years ago. Moving into the new house and settling into the new life as a couple, starting a new business and still working at my old job really didn't leave much time for anything else. Originally we wanted to have the entire house painted but before we knew it that project got put on the back burner. Most walls are painted some sort of neural "sandy" colour that does not stand out too much, but the foyer sported a bright mossy green colour. I wanted to have it painted at the same time as everything else, but this past Monday I decided that I had enough of it and that the time for change has come. I am a lucky girl  as Marc leaves all the creative and decorating decisions to me, so I didn't have to wait on his approval. I just called him while he was still on his way to work to inform him of the fact that he will be coming home to an overhauled foyer. Sitting in my favourite chair now I have a few of an airy and fresh looking space that I love.

I just completed this piece and delivered ti to Freedom CC. It is also listed in my Etsy store.

There a couple of things in the works too. I am trying to split my time between custom orders, painting for my Etsy store and changing things around my house a bit. Fun times.

New Poppy - Desk With Striped Top

This desk seemed like a too good to be true find and it really was. Once I brought it home and started working on it, I noticed that the top veneer was detaching itself from the surface. Rather than trying to glue it down, I decided to take it off completely and reveal the wooden base. I called my trusted iron and scraper to the rescue and little by little the beautiful wood was revealed.
I used natural wood grain as a base for the stripes and left the last one unpainted.
It is a fun little piece that can now be found in my Etsy store.

State of the Garden - July 2

The time has come again to update you on the current state of the garden. Lots has changed and it is fully alive. It is likely at its best now and in another week or so it will be in full bloom. It is both a happy an a little bit of a sad moment as it reminds me of the fact that before we know it it will be time to rake the leaves. But for the time being, let's enjoy the warm days and all the joys that Summer brings.
